He said so at the launch of ...

Collection of poems called Junle pani polchha (Even the moon burns) on March 23 at Hotel Annapurna. He also talked about her contribution to Radio Nepal through her poems. The book’s compilation was initiated by Sangeeta Thapa, curator of Sidhhartha Gallery, who is also related to the poet.

Reminiscing about the old days, Himalayan Shumsher Rana said that it was the family responsibility and obligations that suppressed the talent of an immensely gifted artist. “Words would come so spontaneously to her that she would even write on a cigarette box if she couldn’t find a piece of paper,” he said.

At the function, he recited two of her poems — Junle pani polchha and Mero afnai basti chha. About her creations he said, “Her poems are so sentimental that one cannot put down the book once one starts reading them.”

Pointing out that the literary field in Nepal has always been patriarchal, Professor Abhi Subedi said that with their beautiful creations women like late Rana have made their presence felt in this male dominated sector.

“Her poems show that she was mentally very exhausted and she has poured her feelings through her creations.”

Several family members including late poet Rana’s daughter Sabina Thapa were present at the event.
